Spring accommodation at Lake Bohinj

Spring hiking

In spring, the lower paths along the lake and through the Voje valley open first. The trail to Savica Waterfall is accessible from April, and Mostnica Gorge opens once the last ice melts away. By May and June, higher trails towards Vogel and Komna become passable too.

Spring is ideal for hiking — temperatures are pleasant (10-20 °C), paths are less crowded, and views are crisp and clear. We particularly recommend an early morning walk along the northern shore of the lake, when the surroundings are still wrapped in cool morning air.

Wildflowers and nature

The Bohinj valley is renowned for its wildflowers. In May, the meadows below Vogel are blanketed in white narcissus — a sight rarely found elsewhere in the Alps. Alpine dairy farms begin to open on the high pastures, and birdsong fills the forests.

For nature lovers, spring in Bohinj is paradise: birdwatching, photography, quiet walks among blooming meadows. Triglav National Park, which surrounds the lake, is home to more than 1,600 plant species.

Waterfalls at peak flow

In spring, as the high-mountain snow melts, the waterfalls around Bohinj are at their most spectacular — the water thunders with full force:

• Savica Waterfall — the 78-metre waterfall is at peak flow in spring, creating a magnificent spectacle. 15 minutes by car from Resman, short climb (20 minutes) to the viewpoint.
• Mostnica Gorge — the pearl-green water rushes through the gorge with extra force. Natural pools, Devil's Bridge, and raw beauty — 2 km from Ribčev Laz.

Lake Bohinj in spring

The lake gradually warms from May, and by late May kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are possible. Braver swimmers take the plunge in June when the water reaches around 17-19 °C. The area around the lake is particularly peaceful in spring — ideal for walks, cycling, and lakeside picnics.

Kayak and SUP rentals are available from early May. Morning paddles, when the lake is still shrouded in mist, are an unforgettable experience.

Vogel — from skiing to hiking

In April, skiing is often still possible on Vogel — the ski season frequently extends to mid or late April. Once the snow melts, Vogel transforms into a starting point for stunning hikes with views over the lake and the Julian Alps.

The Vogel cable car operates year-round and takes you up to 1,535 m. From there, trails lead towards Šija, Rodica, and onwards to Komna. In spring, higher paths may still be partially snow-covered — check conditions before setting out.

Practical spring information

April temperatures in the valley range from 8 to 16 °C, May from 12 to 22 °C, and June from 16 to 25 °C. Higher elevations are cooler — bring layers. An umbrella or light rain jacket is always welcome in spring.
